Exploring Zentangle Inspired Art

Tangling uses simple lines and curves to build patterns that are repeated and combined to make a small works of art. The process is very easy, meditative, relaxing and fun. Tapping into your inner spirit while doodling can give you another way to commune with your faith.
Sue Swanson is interested in how we can learn to use artistic creativity to express our faith through practice and repetition. As an alum of United (’05), she understands the transformation that can happen when we start to engage our hands in artmaking.
Writing as a Spiritual Practice

Writing as a spiritual practice is a centuries old tradition that can help ground, sustain, and enhance our lives as people of faith. In a back-by-popular-demand encore of our first-ever online offering, this six-week class with Pamela Wynn, poet and United Adjunct Professor of Writing, Poetry, and Theological Interpretation, will focus on journal writing as a spiritual practice that mines our daily lives in the search for a deeper understanding of what it means to be human.

Altered books are art objects created from existing books. Pages of these books are transformed using paint, collage, stamps, doo-dads, gems, you name it, adding an artistic and fanciful twist to the existing words. Unleash your creativity and let the spirit move you.

Hortense MacLeod is an artist and theologian who is called to arts ministry, the facilitation and celebration of the creative spirit within all. Her mediums include music, painting, collage and performance art. She has a M.Div. with a concentration in Theology and the Arts. (United ’05)
